Wildfire Benefit Concert
25 Musicians Unite in Toronto for First Nations Wildfire Relief Concert
On August 29 at 4:00 p.m. 25 musicians from across Turtle Island are coming together at The Concert Hall in Toronto for the Mikinakoos Forest Fire Relief Show, a benefit concert raising funds for Mikinakoos Children's Fund to support First Nations children and families affected by the devastating wildfires across Northern Ontario. The concert will feature an impressive lineup of Indigenous artists from across Turtle Island, including Jeremy Dutcher, Aysanabee, Julian Taylor, DJ Shub, Digging Roots, Adrian Sutherland, Logan Staats, Sebastian Gaskin and many more. Together, the artists are raising funds for First Nations children and families affected by the wildfires, with all proceeds supporting Mikinakoos Children's Fund's Emergency Response Programming. "When we saw what was happening to First Nations communities across the North we knew we had to do something," says Logan Staats, musician and event organizer. "We wanted to create something that brings people together through music and makes a real difference for families affected by wildfires." At the height of the wildfire crisis, multiple First Nations communities across Northern Ontario were evacuated or placed under evacuation orders, forcing thousands of people to leave their homes. While Mikinakoos typically serves 33 First Nations communities across Northern Ontario, they have temporarily expanded their services to support as many First Nations children as possible during this crisis. “We are incredibly grateful to the 25 artists who have come together to support First Nations children and families affected by the wildfires,” says Stephanie Paxton, Executive Director of Mikinakoos Children's Fund. “Northern First Nations families are still facing significant challenges.
