Giving Tuesday Infant Campaign

Thunder Bay Can Make a Difference for Remote Indigenous Families This Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is fast-approaching, and Mikinakoos Children's Fund is calling on Thunder Bay to help provide free diapers, formula, and other essential baby supplies to Indigenous families in need across Northern Ontario. Donations made in the next two weeks will make a direct impact for families struggling to care for newborns in remote communities.

In remote First Nations communities, basic baby supplies can cost up to four times more than in southern Ontario, and median household incomes are often only half the provincial average. For families with infants, these challenges can make daily life extremely difficult. Every $200 raised provides a new mother with diapers, formula and more supplies to help them in the first few months of parenthood. Donations can be made online until December 31.

“These programs are much needed and go a long way,” says Alex Fox, a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Coordinator at Sachigo Lake First Nation. “Raising a baby up north where there's limited and expensive supplies can be stressful, but it's not just about the baby. It's also being sure that the mother and her health are also being taken care of.”

“Giving Tuesday is about making a difference. And every donation counts,” says Stephanie Paxton, Executive Director at Mikinakoos Children's Fund. “Families in remote communities need these essentials now. Your support can ensure a baby has diapers, formula, and a healthier start to life.”
