$31,000 Raised for Mikinakoos and Northern Indigenous Youth through North Star Air Golf Tournament
Mikinakoos Children's Fund is pleased to announce that the fourth annual North Star Air charity golf tournament, in support of Mikinakoos, was a tremendous success. This year's event set a new record, raising over $31,000 to provide essential supplies to northern indigenous youth, and nearly doubling the $18,000 raised in 2024. Over 100 sponsors, community members and donors gathered at the Fort William Golf and Country Club in Thunder Bay, Ontario to support Mikinakoos. Attendees spent the warm, sunny day golfing and making new connections while supporting an essential cause. The funds raised during the event are crucial for Mikinakoos to continue its backpack, warm clothing and healthy living programs. “We are so incredibly happy and grateful to be able to continue our partnership with North Star Air,” said Stephanie Paxton, Executive Director of Mikinakoos Children's Fund. “Thanks to the funds raised here today, hundreds of youth across Northern Ontario will be given opportunities to eat nutritious food, wear comfortable clothing and play with brand new sporting equipment that they otherwise would not have access to.” “It's important for North Star Air to give back to the community,” said Jeffrey Stout, President and CEO of North Star Air. “Mikinakoos is an amazing organization that supports youth in the dozens of non-road-access communities across Northern Ontario. For us, it's a natural choice to partner with Mikinakoos so that we can help those same kids in communities that we serve.” As of 2025, poverty rates in northern Indigenous communities are well-above the national average, with many youths forced to go without basic essentials. Mikinakoos works to change this reality, and envisions a world where every First Nations child is lifted from poverty and lives the good life as described by First Nations teachings. |
